In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, stress can pile up and take a toll on your mind and body. Take a breather and start incorporating meditation in your daily routine. Not only will it make you feel calmer, it'll strengthen your mental health. Meditation doesn't have to be a special occasion with candles, incense, or charms - it can be done discreetly on a bus or subway seat during your commute! Simply start by sitting up straight, closing your eyes, taking deep long breaths, and taking mindful notes of the feeling and sounds around you - be present with your surroundings. If you're a beginner and need guided meditation, try the Calm app.

Now's the time to engross yourself in something not work-related. Catch up on current events with NPR One, an audio app that connects you to news, stories, and podcasts. Or you can crack open that self-help book you've been meaning to get to. Search up audiobooks for a more hands-free traveling experience - try Audible. For a bigger challenge, you can push yourself and learn a new language with Duolingo. Use this opportunity to pass the time while gaining some knowledge.

A good habit to incorporate into your routine is to plan out what you want to accomplish during your morning. It structures your day and let's you pinpoint your daily goals. If you don't have time to wake up and plan your day because you're scrambling to head out of the house, make it a habit to plan things out during your commute to save time in the morning. Jot down your goals, make a schedule, or create a to-do list. You will feel more organized, productive, and it'll also give you something to do on your way to work! Try the Wunderlist app or if you prefer physically writing things down, check out Bloom Planners.

Another way to pass the time on your commute? Chat with your friends and family, respond to messages, and plan out your next outing with them. Sometimes, it's easy to forget to keep in touch with people when you're so caught up with your life at school or work. Having a specific time to allow yourself to chat freely with your loved ones balances out your life of work and play, and in turn will keep you happy!
